What is beauty?
What makes something or someone beautiful? Is a diamond beautiful? How about a random tree on the road side?
Hard vs easy to get
I realized that these things we call valuable or beautiful are difficult to get. Let's compare gold to iron. As we all know, gold is much harder to get our hands to. It is more expensive and rarer, therefore we value gold over its metal cousin, iron.
Our "taste standard"
We might say an expensive painting is more beautiful than the cheaper ones because subconciously our mind want to think that we have a high standard. Now, if we choose between two paintings without knowing the price, the result may be different.
My thought
It is unfortunate that most of the time we can only admire those expensive, hard to get things or experience. Wouldn't it be awesome if we can also find beauty in common objects such as random trees on the side of the road?
What is the purpose of having a high standard if it limit our ability to experience more beauty in this world? Our life will be much better as we can enjoy even mundane objects.
